The World Federation of Nuclear Medicine and Biology (WFNMB) was founded in 1970, at the third ALASBIMN Congress in Mexico City, and the First World Congress of Nuclear Medicine was held in 1974 in Tokyo and Kyoto, Japan. For 48 years the World Federation has served as the global linking Nuclear Medicine worldwide. Since the first World Congress, 11 further congresses have been organised all around the world and this year the Congress is returning to Japan, which will organise it for the 13th time in Kyoto.
Till end of 2018 the President, Secretary General and Treasurer came from the host Country of the Congress. Due to change of the Statutes of the WFNMB from 1 January 2019 the President, President-Elect, Secretary General and Treasurer were elected by the member states. I had the honour to be elected as the first Treasurer in the new format and to serve from this position between 2019 and 2021.
The World Federation of Nuclear Medicine and Biology represents Nuclear Medicine from around the world and the Governing Body of WFNMB Participate the following societies: African Association of Nuclear Medicine (AANM), Arab Society of Nuclear Medicine (ARSNM), Asia Oceania Federation of Nuclear Medicine and Biology (AOFNMB), Asian Regional Cooperative Council for Nuclear Medicine (ARCCNM), Australian and New Zealand Society of Nuclear Medicine (ANZSNM), European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM), Latin American Association of Societies of Biology and Nuclear Medicine (ALASBIMN), the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) with input from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and World Health Organisation (WHO)
